Remaining Healthy with an Increase in Covid-19 Cases: Series Part 1

December 16, 2020 Posted by Studholme Chiropractic Blog No Comments
Dr. Studholme discusses the beginning of a several-part video/blog series about keeping ourselves as healthy as possible during the pandemic!

This is the first installment of several video blogs that we will be doing on Covid-19.

First, let’s start with the good news. We have an immune system, and it is very intelligently designed to help us fight viruses! How cool is that? You actually have your own built-in protection. Unfortunately, like many things in life, you need to take care of it for it to take care of you. And taking care of it requires commitment to lifestyle choices that our society doesn’t place enough value on.

Today we will discuss these lifestyle choices that can help your immune system be more robust.

We all know the behaviors we can engage in to reduce the spread of Covid-19 (hand washing, social distancing, etc.). These habits have been hammered daily into our brains.

Unfortunately, there has been little to no emphasis on lifestyle choices that can help with overall immune function. Some key factors are:

  1. Stress reduction – Turn off the news, talk to friends, do resonant breathing, have less screen time, and laugh as much as possible.
  2. Sleep – have a regular sleep schedule, get 8 hours a night, use blue blockers if looking at screens later in the evening.
  3. Regular Exercise – 7 days a week of 30-60 minutes of moderate activity per day or minimum of 150 minutes a week. Walking is a great place to start (plus you’ll get the added benefit of the sun and Vit-D production). However, fast walking is best.
  4. Nutritional foods/ Diet – avoid fast food, sugars, eat more vegetables, choose lean proteins, and drink a lot of water.

Remember — the vast majority of people who get Covid-19 will not be hospitalized and will recover in 7-14 days with no major adverse effects, and the survivability rate is very high. Additionally, if you can implement better lifestyle choices, you can groom your immune system to function better and improve your likelihood of having no long term-effects from Covid-19.

If you’d like to learn more about how you can boost your immune system and stay as healthy as possible during this time, contact us today or give us a call at 303-939-0004!
