Benefits of Force Plate Assessment

June 26, 2019 Posted by Studholme Chiropractic Blog No Comments

We’re very excited to introduce a new piece of technology into our analysis system- force plates!

Force plates are the current gold standard in assessment of jumping, balance, and strength. There are many advantages to using a force plate in practice, but ultimately they provide an in-depth look at the way the body responds to activity, that may not be caught with the human eye.

How do you know when you’re ready to start returning to the activities you love after an injury? A typical rehabilitation program includes a battery of milestone tests to determine readiness of return-to-play. However, the chance of re-injury is very real if not rehabbed appropriately. Force plates are sensitive enough to detect changes between an injured and non-injured limb, and may play a huge role in determining the next step in a rehab protocol. Additionally, they can assist in determining if and where additional training can be implemented to enhance performance in sports or activities once the return-to-play process is complete.

In this video, Dr. Studholme explains the benefits of using force plates to assess force production using a countermovement jump.
